galaxy bar

milky way candy bar daily pastel painting
8″ by 8″ daily pastel painting, unframed

Unlike the cupcake, I ate this Milky Way bar when I finished painting it. I had to break a piece off it slowly to get the creamy caramel to flow like it did.
This was one of my childhood favorites with cavities to prove it. When I had my own children I became the chocolate thief. These days I try not to keep the stuff around the house.
I loved painting this. I’m looking for texture challenges.

cheesecake daily painting

My favorite dessert of all time. A bit fattening so I only have it occasionally when I absolutely crave it.
The biggest challenge in painting this was creating the illusion of the cheese.

“Presentation”
8″ by 6 1/2″ daily pastel painting, unframed

I always liked the presentation of chinese food in a box. Simple, functional and somehow elegant.
I came across the reference pic in my photos of the last visit I had with my son and his wife in Arizona. The photo was boring and I’m always happy when the painting looks so much better than the photo.

After painting “cupcakes” for the art challenge my sweet tooth kicked in. The challenge of representing the creaminess of frosting was a fun project.

This painting was done from a photograph provided on the blog Different Strokes From Different Folks.
I had fun working on this painting. It’s so festive!

I’m starting to get back to scheduling more frequent daily works.

I had some great news last week. I received a certificate in the mail from the Artist’s Magazine. My painting “Olives in a Colander” got a finalist award in their annual competition. It will be mentioned in the December 2009 issue.

This was painted from an older photo which was taken in my garden. Sadly I don’t have as many coneflowers anymore.

One of my favorite summer fruits.
Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve posted a daily painting! Aside from working on commissioned pieces my time has been consumed by the busyness of life.
Thanks for stopping by!

copy of Maxfield Parrish daily pastel painting
6″ by 8 3/4″ daily pastel painting, unframed

This month’s challenge at Following the Masters. It’s my version of Maxfield Parrish’s “The Reservoir, Villa Falconieri, Frascatiā€ painted in 1903.
I’ve been in awe of his work as long as I can remember.
